Microsoft first disclosed the security flaw earlier in March. The vulnerability sits in Windows’ server message block, or the so-called SMB, which allows the system to communicate with other devices on the network.
An attack on this vulnerability can lead to remote code execution on the computer, which basically means attackers can gain control over it.
The vulnerability is highly dangerous, rated critical, so we recommend installing the patch as soon as possible.
How to do it:
- The patch will arrive at your computer through the standard Windows Update service. To check if it’s available, click on the Start button, then go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update.
- If you don’t use Windows Update, download and install the patch directly from Microsoft’s website.
