Microsoft has ended its support of Windows 7 as of January 14th. In terms of cybersecurity, that means your Windows 7 PC will continue to operate, but it won’t receive any updates or security patches, which close newly discovered vulnerabilities. Moreover, you won’t get any technical support from Microsoft for your Windows 7 PC.
What to do:
- Switch to another OS if possible. You might choose Windows 10 (you can still switch free) or Linux — just make sure to enable proper and prompt vendor updates.
- If you have to use Windows 7, be especially wary about any software you install. Avoid programs from unknown sources and update installed software regularly.
- Security solutions can help you stay protected, at least partly. They won’t completely compensate for the lack of OS patches, but your Kaspersky Security Cloud will continue working smoothly on Windows 7.
